From Lapland to Kuusamo

Once you’ve seen the sightseeing locations that Lapland has to offer in Karhunkierros (Rupakivi and Oulanka Canyon), it is time to start heading south. After two kilometers from Savilampi, you should arrive the border between Lapland and Kuusamo.
There is no fence or other formalities, but they have built this wooden gate as an indicator, where you step from Lapland to Kuusamo. It is kind of funny, when you think how much effort all travel agencies etc. are spending to create image that Kuusamo would be part of Lapland and here we have this wooden gate making statement about the fact that you are leaving province of Lapland and entering Kuusamo, which belongs to province of Oulu.
After the gate, you still have two more kilometers to go before you will arrive to Taivalköngäs, which could be described as crossroads. Before I tell you more about that, we will make detour to Ristikallio, which is another starting point to Karhunkierros.
