I - Island
Sep 16th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
This week’s letter in Mrs Nesbitt’s 3rd round of ABC Wednesday is ‘I’. I guess I could have used self portrait about myself under ‘me, myself and I’ theme, but at the end I decided to use island as this week’s word (on a last round, I used ice). This island can be found from Kevo Canyon in Lapland. Its in middle of Kevo Strict Nature Reserve, where you are not allowed to pick berries or mushrooms and you are only allowed to follow existing hiking trail. As a result, its something like 20-30km from nearest road, cellular network, etc.. However good news are that its one of the most popular hiking trails in Finland and as a result, if anything bad happens, someone will probably come by within 24 hours.

A very lovely spot! Is it warm in summer? Enough to swim in the waters?
Oh yeah, why didn’t I think about islands? =) Great photos you have here! I love all your pictures.
My “I” picture is posted here. Happy Wednesday!
What an exotic spot!

Leslie:
In Kevo hiking trail you have to cross the river three times. Thankfully it only goes from ankle-deep to tight-deep, so you don’t actually have to swim there. Couple minutes in that water is enough to get your blood rushing through the veins.
Petrus:
We did our hiking trip on September, so night temperatures were below or close to 0 Celcius (32F), which pretty effectively kills all midges. Earlier in summer, it depends on how lucky you are. For example, this year we went to Lapland in beginning of August and there were only one or two days, when midges got annoying. Then again, this year we got plenty of rain, so …
Like the style - so busy that likely someone will be by in 24 hours!
Alas my hiking days are long gone.
Well I think my next trip must be to Finland. It sounds all so inviting and great to be there!

No man is an island, we are all part of the continent, the main!
Springs to mind. How true, especially on ABC Wednesday!

A beautiful pristine island. I’m glad some places are preserved and man hasn’t left his mark too deeply on them.
