The Machine
Jan 25th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
This week’s topic on Photo Friday was ‘The Machine’. I haven’t yet checked what the others have posted as response to this challenge, but I would guess we’ll see many car pictures as well as some strong animal. I wanted to try something different (since my car collection is pretty small among other things) and chose photograph about engine of an airplane. To be more precise engine of Dakota airplane. This particular airplane is called ‘Dakota Norway’.
Photograph was taken in Malmi Airport, when it was celebrating its 65th birthday. In addition to this airplane, they had three other Dougles DC-3/Dakotas (one from Finland, one from Sweden and one from Denmark (?)) and many other airplanes, helicopters, etc.
Technical details: Canon PowerShot G3 (28.8mm, 1/1000s, f/3, ISO50)

wow Juha. that was a nice one. I can see the details clearly.
and I love the color. Gawd. You’re definitely one of my idols
Good choice for this weeks challenge and a nice shot!
Your photo drew me right to your article! Without your description I knew right away what I was looking at. I flew 126 combat reconnaissance missions in an Electric Goon (also known as an EC-47 / DC-3 / Dakota / Gooney Bird) based out of DaNang, South Viet Nam in 1970-1971. It seems that this bird will indeed fly forever! On seven of the 126 missions flown we came back with one of the engines shut down, on fire or some other problem but we always made it home! I truly love this “machine”. Thanks for reminding me of how beautiful this airplane is.

I wonder what “aoto insurance quotes” is all about.
If that comment would have been entered with URL to some commercial site, I would have immediately thrown it into spam bin, but without URL it leaves me wondering, what the heck is it.
