Without your description I knew right away what I was looking at. I flew 126 combat reconnaissance missions in an Electric Goon (also known as an EC-47 / DC-3 / Dakota / Gooney Bird) based out of DaNang, South Viet Nam in 1970-1971. It seems that this bird will indeed fly forever! On seven of the 126 missions flown we came back with one of the engines shut down, on fire or some other problem but we always made it home!
