Mallard
Apr 16th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
This week’s letter in ABC Wednesday is M. I guess I could have used it for ‘me’, but instead of myself, I decided that M is for Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). While the male mallards are more colorful, I feel that this female mallard is funnier than what I have in my other photographs about Mallards.
At least in Finland, Mallard is very common bird and in many places they are easy to approach, escpecially if you have bread with you. According to Wikipedia Mallards are supposed to migrate from Finland to southern parts of Europe for wintertime, but at least in Helsinki area it is quite common to find some mallards through out the winter. Even though they are easy to approach, I still don’t have good photographs about flying mallards, which is something that I will try to fix in coming summer.
