This week’s topic in ‘Photo Theme for Thursday’ was ‘”BLACK” (Night, Dark, Licorice, Clothes, Animals, Cars,…)’. I could have shown you long exposure shot, where you only see light trails from cars that have pass me on a highway, but I decided to do something different this time. Here is moon on Jan 23, 2008. Full moon had been on Jan 22.
This was purely experimental shot with 600mm focal length to see if I would need something even longer to make really big image out of moon (i.e. 300mm + 1.4x + 2x = 840mm vs. 600mm). Alternative approach for shooting photograph about moon, would be to take multiple photographs and later combine them so that you would have image with 2-4 moons in it.
Technical details: Canon EOS 40D & Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM + 2x II (1/160s, f/11, ISO200)
P.S. It really is 1/160s, f/11 and ISO200. Moon is really so bright that you don’t need long shutter speed, if you want to see moon’s craters, etc.
great shot! you can see it so clearly and with such detail. must have been a beautiful day when u took the photo. you can see the craters and how how the impact explosion spread out on the moon. amazing
