Old and new Sallatunturi
Jun 13th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
This photograph was taken during Lapland Camp in 2008 as we were climbing last hundred meters or so to top of Iso Pyhätunturi, which is considered to be part of Sallatunturi ski resort. On horizon you can see three peaks of other fell. One of these three peaks is original Sallatunturi, which was lost during Winter War to Soviet Union and is still ruled by Russia. Whole village of Salla as we know it today has been built after the war, because original Salla is now in Russian territory,

Breath taking - I just love the pure, wild nature like this and you’ve captured it so well - thanks for sharing!
Btw: What a coincidence. I’ve just been up north in Norway to Kirkenes and experienced the Arctic Adventure too - as you can see in my last three posts:
RennyBA’s last blog post..Arctic King Crab and Bird Mountain safari
Interesting; snow in June. We had not that much in Turku the whole winter!
I also loved the info about Sallatunturi

Nice picture!
I guess the ski resorts in Lapland could easily be open until the early June, even longer - they just don’t have the market for that, i.e. people from south doesn’t realize the fact that skiing up north is the best in the LATE spring or even in the early summer!
Check e.g. these picturest from Pyhäkuru at Pallastunturi, taken in late May:
