Savilampi in Karhunkierros
Jan 9th, 2009 by Juha Ylitalo
Savilampi is important spots in Karhunkierros for three reasons. First two reasons are that Savilampi is first place, where hiker will come across with suspension bridge and wilderness cabin. One nice thing in that cabin is that it has gas stove in its porch. If you arrive here in the evening and cabin is full of people (or you prefer to have privacy), you can also setup your tent near the cabin and sleep in it because Savilampi happens to be third campsite in 80km version of Karhunkierros hiking trail from Hautajärvi to Ruka (there is one between Rupakivi and Savilampi, but I don’t have photographs from there).
Third reason, why Savilampi is important spot, is that this is, where hiker has to make choice on whether or not he makes short (1-2km) sidetrip to watch Oulangan Kanjoni before going any further in Karhunkierros. Oulankajoki runs on bottom of Oulangan kanjoni (which is canyon) before it merges with Savinajoki in Savilampi.
