Helsinki from Sea

If you ever want to get great photographs from Helsinki as it opens to sea, then you have should visit Länsi-Musta, which is yet another island in Suomenlinna. With this image in mind (remember my earlier post about Susisaari?), it is pretty obvious that it hasn’t been fun to be in an island in winter 1808, when Russians conquered Helsinki.
Catamaran in this photograph belongs to Nordic Jet Lines. Each day (as long as weather permits) it makes three trips from Helsinki to Tallinn (in Estonia) and back. One way trip takes about two hours plus all the formalities in a harbor. In addition to this catamaran, there is Tallink (at least three ships or maybe even more?), LindaLine (at least one catamaran and two other boats), Ekenö Lines and possible some other shipping companies offering boat trips from Helsinki to Tallinn and back.
Church on the background is Helsinki Cathedral, which was built in 1830-1852.
