Common Eiders (Somateria mollissima) (week 17/08)
Posted in nature on Apr 29th, 2008 No Comments »
Last weekend, we did day trip to Porkkala peninsula, which is popular destinations for all birdwatchers during spring and autumn migrations. It would also be beautiful area for all landscape photographers to visit with tent, because sunrises and sunsets would probably be quite spectacular on sea shore, where rock starts straight from the sea. Area also has lot of small pines, which have taken lot of beating by the seawinds.
Anyway, topic in this week’s photograph is Common Eider couple (male and female). While the female has good brown camouflage colors, the male has very strong black and white plumage, which makes it great target for photographing. We saw couple dozens of these during a day and later in this week, I will hopefully have time to make whole album about them.
