Kustaanmiekka in winter

After all the positive feedback to my photo of a week, I wanted to publish little bit different kind of photograph from Suomenlinna. Suomenlinna is formed up by eight islands, which all have something unique in them. Kustaanmiekka is one of those eight islands. If you are looking for a picnic spot in a summer, it would be good destinations, because many tourists don’t bother to walk that far away from the ferry pier.
All these small hills in Kustaanmiekka and vaults inside those hills reminds me about Shire in Lord of the Rings. However you won’t see any hobbits in here, because those vaults were used as storage for artillery and other such tasks. Small ponds in a photograph have been freshwater reserves for the people in fortress.

During normal winter all this landscape should be covered by snow, but as you can see, all snow has melted away and there is lot of dead grass and some bushes that have dropped their leaves.

Technical details: Canon EOS 20D & Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX (22mm, 1/250s, f/11, ISO200)
