Nuuksio

This week’s letter in ABC Wednesday is N. N for me is two things: Nuuksio and National Park. Nuuksio National Park is beautiful place in Espoo that is something like 30km away from Helsinki downtown. It has three marked hiking trails (2km, 4km and 8km in length) for day visitors and more than half dozen legal camping sites in the woods for campers. Nuuksio National Park is surrounded by other recreational areas (Luukki, Pirttimäki, Solvalla, Salmi, Vaakkoi, …), where you have more freedom on where you want to put your tent up, etc. This bigger area (Nuuksio lake uplands) is generally referred as Nuuksio.
I used to visit Nuuksio quite often as it was my training place on camping related issues. I used to travel there in Friday evenings or Saturday mornings and head back to home on Sunday afternoons. On Sunday afternoons, I often found myself surrounded by boy and/or girl scouts in bus stop, when I was waiting for ride home.
In last couple years, I’ve been there whole lot less, because it takes about two hours to get there on public transportation from my current home. At the sametime, I have this nagging feeling that I really should go there more often, because I really could use more decent photographs from that area.
