Winter in Vuokatti (week 09/08)
Mar 5th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
Last weekend, we traveled to north (about 460km from north) to see real winter. On Friday we did some hiking on snowshoes and on Saturday we did telemark skiing in Vuokatti. This week’s photograph is from that hiking trip on Friday. While it can’t compete with the photographs of snowcovered trees in Lapland, it was still quite impressive sight. All that snow in those trees is almost icy. You can push branches and its quite likely that snow won’t fall off from them.
What comes to weather, Friday was sunny in a morning, but by the evening it was already cloudy. On Saturday, we got snow for whole day, but it didn’t stop us from going telemark skiing. While I once again learned whole lot about telemark, I still prefer those easy blue slopes instead of red or black.

This is the kind of winter I would like

It’s wonderful to see untouched snow like that. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any in real life though we have had one or two heavy snowfall winters in the UK, but nothing like that!
