Snow situation in Salla (week 22/08)
Jun 8th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
I spent last week in Master Tung Kaying’s Lapland Camp 2008. Idea in a camp is to go to Salla for six days and practise taiji. Each day we had optional morning practise from 7am to 8am, breakfast time from 8am to 9am, morning class from 10am to 11.45am, lunch started at 12.30pm, evening class from 5pm to 7pm and dinner started at 7.30pm. In this camp we had one person from Denmark, 17 from Finland, three from Norway, two from France and 10 from USA.
To get back into photo of a week … This year camp was bit early and nature on its half was late from its normal cycle and as a result from all this, we were able to see ice floating in lakes and ponds and snow here and there, when we drove into Salla. All the ice melted very quickly (in a day or so), but snow takes its time to melt.
Photograph was taken on our first day in Salla, when the pond was completely calm and ideal for shooting this kind of photograph. Just for comparison, here are some links to how the place has looked in previous years (captions are in finnish, but …): 2003, 2004, 2005 ja 2006. From year 2007, my only photograph about this scenery is view from Ruuhitunturi (another fell) to Sallatunturi.
Technical information: Canon EOS 40D & Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM (24mm, 1/100s, f/11, ISO200)
P.S. When you look at those photographs from previous years, its quite obvious how there was significant change in amount of post processing etc. when we go from year 2004 to 2005.
