Cairn (week 32/08)
Aug 17th, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo
This photo of a week is almost week late from its intended publishing date. Cairn in this photograph gives you hint about why we are running behind the schedule. Cairn in this photograph happens to mark border between Norway and Finland. During last week, I’ve made three visits to Norway and each time gone across the border between Finland and Norway (without going through passport control or other such formalities).
Journey started, when we carried our packs to night train that took us from Helsinki to Kolari. In Kolari, we jumped to bus that took us to Kilpisjärvi and from there we continued on a taxi to Didnu river in Norway. At that point, it was time to lift packs on our back and start hiking towards Lossujärvi in Finland. We were bit slow at the beginning and as a result, we spent our first night in Loassohytta (Norway), but in following morning we went passed this cairn, under the reindeer fence and we were back in Finland.
During following week, I visited Norway on top of Halti fell, along Nordkalottruta as we were hiking from Halti to Kilpisjärvi, but I’ll tell you more about it within next couple days.

Stunning photo. It has an HDR quality to it, lovely lighting.

Photograph was taken with Circular Polarizer, which explains part of the effect.
