Water skiing (week 38/08)

Sep 23rd, 2008 by Juha Ylitalo

Water skiing

Last weekend, I got opportunity to photograph water skiing from a boat. I packed 100-400mm, 50mm and 12-24mm with me. I started with telezoom, which I thought to be ideal for a job, but rope was so short that I kept on hitting 100mm boundary and primary used only 100-135mm focal range. After I got little bit frustrated about this, I switched to 50mm.
During post processing it seems that telezoom was best option for water skiing, even though I took way too many portraits instead of lanscapes. With 50mm the subject gets too small and you get too much water into frame. On a next time, I will probably try my luck with 70-200mm telezoom.
